“MM disease” (MM), or by its full name Multiple Myeloma, is a form of hematological cancer that is not widely known. It is caused by an abnormality in the division of plasma cells, which originate from the bone marrow, producing abnormal proteins in the blood. Normally, plasma cells function to create immunity for the body, but once a patient has developed MM disease, the plasma cells are transformed into cancer cells and can no longer produce immunity normally. Instead, they produce M protein, along with secreting abnormal chemicals into the body, which causes abnormalities to the bone marrow as well as other organs of the body. In the early stage, patients will not have any abnormal symptoms; some may have only mild anemia, which makes it difficult to diagnose the disease correctly. Although Down syndrome can be diagnosed in a fetus during pregnancy, some mothers may choose to care for the baby even if the baby has Down syndrome. Babies in this group have reduced muscle strength, and stimulating milk by sucking from the breast does not work well. Feeding from the breast may be tiring and the baby may not get enough milk.
